How to Pack Fragile Items So They Survive the Courier Network
Couriers stack, drop, and slide parcels — that’s just how the network works. You can’t control the handling, but you can pack so it doesn’t matter. Here’s the method we use and recommend for fragile orders.
Step 1 — Start with the right box
Use a double-wall box for anything breakable, sized to leave 4–5 cm of cushioning space on every side. Too big and the item shifts; too tight and shocks transfer straight through.
Step 2 — Wrap each item individually
Bubble wrap or foam around every item, taped closed. If you’re shipping several fragile pieces, wrap and separate each one so they can’t knock together.
Step 3 — Cushion the base
Lay 4–5 cm of cushioning (air pillows or scrunched kraft paper) on the bottom before the item goes in. The base takes the hardest hit in a drop.
Step 4 — Centre, then fill every gap
Place the item in the middle, away from all walls, and fill the space so it can’t move. Do the shake test — no movement, no rattle.
Step 5 — Seal and label
- H-tape the box top and bottom.
- Add a clear FRAGILE label on more than one side.
- For very delicate items, mark THIS WAY UP with arrows.
Bonus: the double-box method
For high-value or very fragile goods, place the packed box inside a slightly larger box with cushioning between the two. It’s the single most effective way to survive rough handling.
